'Connect It'

Last term Year 6 studied Anna Meredith's body percussion piece of music 'Connect It'.  Watch Kestrels have a go at it themselves.

Year 5 go to Kew Gardens!

Year 5 were lucky enough to visit Kew Gardens to learn more about different plants and biomes (as part of our topic on rain-forests).

While we were there, we learnt about and explored different exotic plants from around the world and learnt about the different climates they exist in.

In addition to this, the children were also set some really exciting challenges that they had to complete whilst they were there.

All in all, it was an exciting, fun-filled day filled with lots of exploring, laughter and adventure.

Matemáticas - Maths

In year 6 we had a maths lesson in Spanish.

We learnt how to say:

+ más

Rainforest Animation

This term year 5 have been using digital technology in Art lessons to explore their ideas. Our Rainforest Topic gave us lots of inspiration to create stop motion animations.

To begin we looked at the ways artists have made work about the Rainforest. Artist Henri Rousseau made paintings of the Rainforest. We discovered that he never actually visited the Rainforest, instead he imagined what it would be like, and did research using books and plant specimens.

We made backgrounds inspired by Rousseau, collaging repeated shapes using suitable colours to represent the plants and vegetation. Then we animated these scenes, taking photographs of the backdrops to create a narrative, with beginning, middle and end.
These are a few of our animations:

La pequeña oruga glotona - The very hungry caterpillar

This week in Year 1 we read our first story in Spanish 'La pequeña oruga glotona - The very Hungry Caterpillar' using everything we have learnt such as numbers, days of the week and fruits.

We get to act it out and it was very fun!

To end the story, we danced our favorite song: 'El baile de la fruta!

Year 2 Music Trip

Today Year 2 went to the Gresham Centre for a special music workshop about their topic, The Great Fire of London.

They listened to music performed by the group Ceruleo, who play instruments that would have been around during the time of the Great Fire.

Have you seen these instruments before?  There is a harpsichord, a viol, a lute and a theorbo.

The children also learned songs and performed them in a concert.  Well done Year 2!

The Great Fire of London - London's burning!

Year 2 have made 17th Century houses in Art. Mr Lombardi had the pleasure of burning them down in a dramatic reenactment of the Great Fire of London, whilst Year 2 watched excitedly and sang 'London's Burning'. We thought about what it must have been like to experience such an event.

Thank you Mr Lombardi for making it both safe and exciting!
