Girls Football Festival Years 4 - 6
Our team of 10 girls took part in the Hackney Girls Football Festival. This was held at Hackney Marshes. There were over 150 girls across Hackney taking part! The girls across years 4 -6 competed in 4 matches.
Drawing one of their matches and coming close in the others, the girls all worked tremendously hard competing against girls who have played football for years.
Well done girls!

PA Tag Rugby
Tuesday 29th January
This tournament started off with a high with all children from every school doing their last minute training sessions before the tournament officially start. Competition started with a few warm up games where both Gainsborough A and Gainsborough B won them with a very attacking minded approach to the game.
When the playoff started both teams advanced through into the semi-finals where both A and B team lost which resulted in Gainsborough A vs Gainsborough B third place playoffs. Gainsborough A won it 5-2.

Come and see our Spanish display. You will get to see the best work of Gainsborough students during Autumn 2 term.
It is all about descriptions:
Year 3 described themselves as monster.
Year 4 learnt the zoo animals.
Year 5 described people in their class.
Year 6 we learnt about some naughty Santa's helpers that stole all the Christmas presents, they helped the police to find them by describing them.

RAF Celebration Fly Past
Last week we saw an impressive aerial display of aircraft fly over the playground on its way to central central London to celebrate 100 years of the Royal Air Force.
The spectacular event will took place as part of a series of special events throughout 2018 to mark the centenary.
Featuring up to 100 aircraft, the flypast remembered the RAF's creation on April 1, 1918. Thanks to Year 5 for capturing these stunning photographs of the once in a lifetime event!

Year 6 Minimalist Geometric Landscape
In Art we have been making some AMAZING Landscapes using geometric shapes! We started by cutting a semi circle out of paper we had prepared last week with different textures.
We then layered different isosceles triangles to create the mountains reflecting in the sea!
'I am very proud of my work. The composition is perfect and I layered the different shapes skillfully'
Timi, Year 6 Kestrels.

Spanish Assembly - The importance of languages
Last Friday, KS2 had their Spanish Assembly, they were amazing!
We spoke about the importance of learning a second language.
All the school had their hands up for answering questions in Spanish!
We had a role play in Spanish asking for food in a restaurant.
We learnt that, at school, we speak 27 languages and they are all very important!
-Learning languages makes you smarter,
-Increases your brain capacity and memory,
-Makes you understand different cultures,
-and you can travel!
We also played the song of Moana in 24 languages:
I hope you enjoyed!

Our Heritage by Year 1 from
Gainsborough
In Year 1 we
have been researching our family history and the countries of our roots. We
photographed portraits of each other and overlaid these on top of maps to show
the part of the world our parents have connections with. We learnt that our
classes are filled with children from all over the world. This work celebrates
our global identity.
Eyes Observational Drawing by Year 6
Year 6 have
been exploring ways to draw with skill using a variety of materials. We
discussed how eyes can show emotion and are a huge part of our identity. Drawing
from observation, we persevered with our drawings taking time to build up tone,
light and shade. As artists, we explored how using different materials can give
us a variation of styles.
Digital Self Portraits in the style
of Julian Opie by Year 1-6
As a whole school we created digital self-portraits
inspired by artist Julian Opie. Opie paints portraits in a minimalist style
with bold black outlines and bright colours. On the computer we carefully drew
over our photograph to simplify the facial features. We then skilfully used
vibrant colours to fill the background in Opie’s signature style. In this work,
we celebrate our similarities, but also the ways we are all unique.
