Music Compositions

Years 1 and 2 have been composing. 

Year 1 have been listening to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and are creating their own 'Moonlight' music. 

Year 2 have been listening to John Adams's 'Short Ride in a Fast Machine' and are working on a piece of music to depict a journey.

Today Apollo Music visited Year 4. 

The children enjoyed trying the different instruments.

Young Voices concert at the O2

On Tuesday the Key Stage 2 choir went to the O2 Arena to perform as part of the Young Voices choir.

There were over eight thousand children singing together.

We performed with a live band and professional dancers. 

Our parents and carers came to watch.

We had a great time!

Apollo Music Project

This week musicians from the Apollo Music Project came in to work with Year 4. 

The children listened carefully to the music and asked lots of questions. 

They identified patterns in the music and talked about how the music made them feel.

Apollo will be visiting us again soon. We can't wait!

A special concert for Years 3 and 4

Last week the Albion Quartet visited us and gave an interactive concert to Years 3 and 4. 

We heard some incredible music.

We learnt about dynamics and tempo.

The Albion Quartet will be coming back later in the year to work with us again. We can't wait!

Year 5 Choir Creation

Last week Year 5 started their Choir Creation project. 

Both classes singing together formed an amazing choir!

They worked on repertoire and singing technique.

They are looking forward to their next session. 

Carol Singing

The Year 4 choir went carol singing at the Ernst and Young offices in Canary Wharf and at Here East in Hackney Wick. 

 They sounded amazing!

Well done Year 4!

It's ukulele time!

Last week Year 4 had their first ukulele lesson.  

We learnt two songs.

'Meet my ukulele'

and 

'That thumb brush strum'

Hackney Music Festival Instrumental Event

We had another great performance at the Round Chapel last week. Nine children from Year 5 gave an amazing rendition of 'Oh When the Saints'. 

Then all the children taking part in the festival came together to play the James Bond Theme Tune.  

I am really proud of you - well done!

It's festival time!  

Today both the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 choirs performed at the Round Chapel as part of the Hackney Music Festival.  

What a great concert!  Well done everyone!

Responding to Music in Art

Year Two have entered a competition in conjunction with the Cavantina Trust to design a piece of artwork responding to Music. These are their designs which a both inspired by the artist Kandinsky and also the very special concert we had at school by a string quartet from the Cavantina Trust. Look out for our designs in the playground and take a look at the examples below!

Last week Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed a concert performed by the Albion Quartet.  

We talked about the music and how it made us feel.  Jemima and Ishak got to conduct the quartet and decide whether they played forte or piano.

Today Year 4 had another amazing workshop from Apollo Music Project.  Every child had a go on one of these instruments.

Guitar performance

Liliana has been learning to play the guitar out of school.  This week she brought in her guitar to play to her class and to play in our music assembly.  She has only been learning since January but has clearly worked very hard as she sounded fantastic!  Well done Liliana!
