Year 4,5 and 6 Girls Football Competition

Wednesday 16th October

Gainsborough took part in the girls football competition that was held at Mabley Green.

All the girls were excited for the competition as they trained for two weeks from 8:30 to 9am every morning to be prepared. Their performances showed great teamwork and being great sports people as they went on to the finals.

Their journey to finals was a great one as they won three of their group games 1-0 and lost one. They won their quarter final game 1-0 to advance them into the semis where they won on penalties thanks to an amazing save from our goalie.

The finals will take place at a different time.

Year 3 and 4 Badu Basketball Competition

Friday 11th October 2019

This term our year 3's and 4's have been practising basketball. They have shown great improvement throughout the 6 weeks. Some of the children were chosen to represent our school at the Badu Basketball competition to showcase their skills against other schools.

The children that were chosen represented our school the best way possible by being polite to everyone involved in the competition and played great as a team. Their passing, moving and dribbling skills helped them to progress through their group stage as the group winners.

Their final game was remarkable as they demonstrated great determination and teamwork to level the scoreline during the game, they kept up the hard work to the final buzzer. They finished the competition in second place as the other team scored just on the buzzer.

Year 5 Starlings, How can we reduce our sugar consumption.

This half term, Year 5 campaign has been on investigating the dangers of eating too much sugar and how we can reduce our sugar consumption. We carried our research and we did experiments to broaden our knowledge. At the end of our campaign we wrote a leaflet to inform other people about the dangers, how to reduce their sugar consumption, how can they know how much sugar is in their foods or drinks, how much sugar is advisable a day and a lot more information can be found in this leaflet. Please have  a look as you will find this information very helpful.

Kench Hill Day 3
Shelter building, bread making and archery. Living as Anglo-Saxons is fun😀

Year 2 - Trip to Ridley Road Market

Ben the Cook needs help! He has lost his recipe book and he needs a new, healthy recipe.

Luckily, in line with our writing, topic and campaign lessons, Year 2 took a trip to Ridley Road Market. With the generous help from the parents, we bought lots of deliciously, healthy fruit for a bargain!
Then, we used the fruit to make a fruit salad and we have written recipes for Ben to use. So, don't worry Ben. Help is close by!

We have also been learning about the different continents and we have begun to think about why certain foods are grown in certain countries. If you have a child in year 2 and you have lived/worked in a different country, please tell them all about the food and the reasons why it is popular/grown there. i.e. climate/celebrations.

Thinking about how lucky we are to have such healthy food, we have decided to write letters to parents/careers and the Governors to ask them to donate some food that we can then pass on to our local food bank.

If you have any food at all that you would like to share with those less fortunate, please bring to the office or the Year 2 classroom. Year 2 will be using their knowledge on tally charts to monitor the food coming in!

Thank you in advance for your kindness.
