Using a sketchbook.

As part of our Art Curriculum we have been introducing sketchbook practice in Year 5 and 6. A sketchbook is  a place for an artist to record their ideas as they develop. Our sketchbooks are becoming a personal record our journey through Art.
We looked at some inspiring examples of sketchbooks from a range of different Artists and Craftspeople. Here are just a few:

A photography student's sketchbook showing step-by-step development of an idea.
A textured experimental sketchbook made by a designer.

What is Annotation?

We have also been looking at how we use writing (annotation) to clearly record our ideas.
Next term we will be focusing on our use of Annotation further, watch this space for our amazing work in 2018!

Parents In Class Event: Origami

We had an amazing time on Friday mastering the Art of Origami at Parents-in-class event. With lots of practice we persevered with our designs to create a multitude of different festive shapes. Each year group learned skills they will remember forever! We are looking forward to seeing your instruction homework at school this week.

Year 4 mastered the snowman!
Lots of concentration on our faces!

So proud of our work

Christmas Wrapping

Wrapping paper by Valentina Y1.

At Art Club on Monday we got wholly into the Christmas spirit with a workshop making festive wrapping paper to take home to wrap our gifts for family.

Valentina Y1 and Nia Sky Y3 collaborate.

We watched part of an episode of Kirstie's Handmade Christmas and used a similar technique to make Penguin prints to cover the brown paper. We had to collaborate together  to achieve this as the paper was huge! Our winter Penguins were made using a range of different marks. They are all slightly different and have fun personalities. We started to name them, could you think of a funny name for one of our Penguins?

Carol singing at Here East

This week the Year 4 carol singers went to BT Sports Studios at Here East.  We sang Christmas carols while the employees ate their Christmas lunch.  They enjoyed our singing so much, they kindly gave us a tour of the studios afterwards.

Brass Performance

On Friday our brass students put on a performance to share their progress this term.  It was absolutely fantastic!

We particularly enjoyed their rendition of 'Happy'.  Well done to everyone involved!

The Twelve Days of Christmas

On Friday, Nara Taylor from Sutton House visited us to lead a special music assembly.  We really enjoyed singing 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' together and learning a little bit about the history of the song.

StoneAge Jewellery

Today we made some fierce StoneAge jewelry designs working in three dimensions.
These are photographs taken from our StoneAge fashion show.

Art of the StoneAge

Year 3 have been exploring Art from the StoneAge in their lessons this half term.

We created a class collaborative cave painting which is now on display in the Top Hall.

We watched a video of cave painting at the Caves of Lascaux in France. We noted down everything we saw. Cave people made Art using materials they could find around them in their environment. After making backgrounds we drew around our hands with oil pastel.

Painting using Browns and Red to imitate the StoneAge style of mark making. It was so much fun and great topic cross curricular learning too!

PA Gymnastics

Gainsborough hosted and took part in the Primary Advantage Gymnastics Competition. Children had to learn a set floor routine and perform their own school routine in front of an audience and judges. Judges scored each performance against children’s presentation, coordination, fluency, posture and creativity. Congratulations to Springfield on winning the competition.
