Spring 1 in PE

This term in Gainsborough, KS2 have been learning Tag Rugby for PE. Every child has put in some great performances.

First week they were taught how to tag and defend together by playing a wonderful game of warriors and family tag being fundamental warm ups. Second week they learned how to pass by breaking down the passes and giving each motion of the pass a stage. Third week they learned how to move with the ball by running into space and getting closer to the try line. Fourth week they were able to apply the skills in mini matches, 3 v 3, this allowed them to have much playing time which improved their ability within the matches. Fifth week, they played more mini matches 3 v 3 but including a lot of the rules slowly through the course of PE and thinking about their tactics within the game. The sixth and final week the children will be playing 7 a side games, this will give them the best opportunity to show all the skills they have learned.

Tuesday 29th January 

This tournament started off with a high with all children from every school doing their last minute training sessions before the tournament officially start. Competition started with a few warm up games where both Gainsborough A and Gainsborough B won them with a very attacking minded approach to the game.

When the playoff started both teams advanced through into the semi-finals where both A and B team lost which resulted in Gainsborough A vs Gainsborough B third place playoffs. Gainsborough A won it 5-2.

PA Football League

This half term we played our third round in the football league, this saw Gainsborough A vs Gainsborough B square up to each other for some bragging rights at school.

Both teams started the half term training really hard during their lunch time over the playing fields. On the day the teams played with a lot of passion and teamwork.

The A team won all their games which included beating the B team 2-0, the title contenders, St. Mathias 0-1 Gainsborough A and St. John and St. James B 0-1 Gainsborough A .

B team won their game against SJB 2-0, drew with Morningside B 0-0 and lost their game against  Gainsborough A.

Young Voices concert at the O2

On Tuesday the Key Stage 2 choir went to the O2 Arena to perform as part of the Young Voices choir.

There were over eight thousand children singing together.

We performed with a live band and professional dancers. 

Our parents and carers came to watch.

We had a great time!

Apollo Music Project

This week musicians from the Apollo Music Project came in to work with Year 4. 

The children listened carefully to the music and asked lots of questions. 

They identified patterns in the music and talked about how the music made them feel.

Apollo will be visiting us again soon. We can't wait!
