Tie Dye with Fashion+Textile Club

In Fashion and Textile Club we have been learning the Tie-Dye technique this week.
With Tie dye  you can produce beautiful textile patterns on fabric by tying parts of the cloth to shield it from the dye.

We had so much fun perfecting this new technique!

ARTefacts- Canopic Jars

Year 5 have been making crafting Canopic Jars this term in response to their Ancient Egypt topic.

We have been learning about Mummification. It was very important to ancient Egyptian religious beliefs that the human body was preserved.

A method of artificial preservation, called mummification was developed by the ancient Egyptians. During the process of mummification, all of the major organs were removed and placed in canopic jars.

What are canopic jars?
Jars used by ancient Egyptians to hold mummified remains. During the mummification process the organs of the human body were removed and preserved separately in canopic jars.

What did the Egyptians put inside the jars?
The persons liver, intestines (guts), lungs and stomach were placed in canopic jas. Each organ was placed in a special jar with a top representing an animal or human head.

Why did each jar have a special top?
The Canopic Jars were decorated with the heads of the four sons of Horus.

These are our versions of Canopic Jars with sculptured heads of the four sons of Horus.
Amazing work Year 5!

The spectacular event will took place as part of a series of special events throughout 2018 to mark the centenary.
Featuring up to 100 aircraft, the flypast remembered the RAF's creation on April 1, 1918. Thanks to Year 5 for capturing these stunning photographs of the once in a lifetime event!
